DrupalCampWI Theming Session

CSS, YUI, and Drupal

This session will be held at DrupalCampWI, Janruary 19th, 2008. I am a big fan of Yahoo’s User Interface framework (YUI) and use it quite often to build out almost bullet-proof structures for my websites. This topic has been on my mind for some time and I’d really like to move forward with my pursuit to become a theming ninja. While YUI is much more than just a CSS framework (it’s also a complete PHP-driven AJAX development framework), the goal of my session has 4 main steps:

• Use a crystal-clean, solid Drupal 5.6 install.
• Use one of Drupal’s tried-and-true themes Chameleo and Drupal’s theme development guidelines
• Use YUI Grids to generate our CSS and HTML foundation
• Pull them together into a Drupal theme that can be infinitely modified using YUI’s Grid framework

Note: There is a bit more to themeing in Drupal 6 (making things easier for the most part, just a lot different) 6.0 RC1 that that will be reserved for another time.
